.es Domain Registration — What You Get
.es is the country code for Spain, created on 14 April 1988 and administered by Red.es, the public body that runs the registry from dominios.es. It is one of Europe's largest zones and a genuine bargain among ccTLDs.
Until 2005 registration demanded a Spanish trademark, a matching legal name or the registrant's own name plus surname. Those restrictions were lifted in stages and second-level .es opened to anybody worldwide on 8 November 2005; today an Indian registrant simply supplies an identification number instead of a Spanish one.
The delegation is DNSSEC-signed, and the registry accepts internationalised labels with Spanish characters — ñ and accented vowels — so español.es-style names exist alongside plain ASCII. Registration periods run in the registry's allowed set of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 10 years rather than every single year count.
Who Can Register a .es Domain Name
Any individual or company, Indian included, can register at the second level — the zone is open worldwide. What the registry does insist on is identification: organisations outside Spain supply a business registration or VAT number, and individuals outside Spain a passport or driving licence number.
The administrative contact must be a natural person, not a company. Red.es also validates data by email from an @red.es address and allows three calendar days to fix any error, failing which a name can be cancelled without refund — so enter real details and watch the inbox.
- Foreign companies: business registration number or VAT number instead of a Spanish CIF.
- Foreign individuals: passport or driving licence number instead of a Spanish DNI or NIE.
- Open second level .es, plus open com.es, nom.es and org.es labels; gob.es and edu.es stay restricted to Spanish bodies.
- Names run 2 to 63 characters with IDN characters allowed; hyphens cannot start or end the name.
What a .es Domain Is Used For
A .es address signals a Spanish-facing presence: Spanish and Latin-American businesses, exporters selling into Spain, and Spanish-language brands use it as their natural home the way Indian brands use .in.
For an Indian company with Spanish clients — textiles, pharma, IT services — a .es name on a contact page reads local without a Spanish office, and the price is low enough to hold defensively next to the .com.
Spanish-speakers type .es by reflex, so it also protects a brand from a near-miss registration in a market of hundreds of millions of Spanish speakers.
.es Domain Registration Plans & Pricing (INR)
WebJi lists .es at ₹716 a year for registration and ₹716 for renewal — the same band both years — read on 4 November 2026, before 18% GST. Premium names cost more and are quoted before payment, and WebJi does not bill a separate .es transfer charge.
| TLD | Registration (₹/yr) | Renewal (₹/yr) | Best for | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| .es | ₹716 | ₹716 | Spain's open code, Spanish-speaking market | Register |
| .com | ₹1,380 | ₹1,480 | Global default, brand names | Register |
| .in | ₹1,000 | ₹1,000 | Indian identity | Register |
| .co.in | ₹809 | ₹877 | Indian corporate second level | Register |

.es Renewal, Transfer and Expiry Rules
Renewals run in the registry's allowed blocks of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 10 years at the same ₹716-a-year band, and reminders go to the registrant email — keep that address reachable and use auto-renew.
Transfers differ from .com in one useful way: you request an authorisation code (AuthCode) from your current registrar, the code is sent to the administrative contact, and an email is sent to that contact to accept the move. With more than 30 days left before expiry the transfer is free of a renewal charge and the expiry date stays the same; with less than 30 days left it costs a renewal. Owner changes are not done by transfer — they go through the registry's own nic.es panel, and our support desk handles the paperwork.
WHOIS privacy is not offered on .es — the registry publishes registrant data, so the identification details you enter are visible. We confirm exactly what shows before you pay.
.es vs .com and .in for an Indian Business
The extension is not a ranking factor: content and links decide placement. Choose .es when the message is a Spanish-facing shop or service, .com for a global brand, .in when Indian identity is the point.
Many Indian exporters hold a .com or .in as the main site and a .es that redirects to it, so Spanish visitors see a familiar ending and the brand is protected in Spanish-speaking markets.
- .es — Red.es's open code, ₹716 a year, renewal ₹716.
- .com — global default, ₹1,380/year, renewal ₹1,480.
- .in — Indian identity, ₹1,000/year.
- .co.in — Indian commercial second level, ₹809/year.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a .es domain cost in India?
WebJi lists .es at ₹716 a year for both registration and renewal — the same band both years — read on 4 November 2026 and before 18% GST. Premium names cost more and are quoted before payment.
Can I register a .es domain from India without living in Spain?
Yes. Since 8 November 2005 second-level .es has been open worldwide. Foreign companies register with a business registration or VAT number and foreign individuals with a passport or driving licence number; no Spanish address is required.
Does .es need a Spanish ID like a NIE or DNI?
Spanish residents use a DNI, NIE or CIF, but foreign registrants do not need one — a passport, driving licence or company registration number is accepted instead. The admin contact must be a natural person.
How long can I register a .es domain for?
The registry allows registration periods of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 10 years — not every year count in between — and renewals use the same allowed set.
How much does a .es domain renewal cost, and is there a transfer fee?
Renewal sits at the same ₹716-a-year band as registration, in the registry's allowed blocks of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 10 years, read on 4 November 2026 and before 18% GST. The transfer itself is ₹0 at WebJi — with more than 30 days left the move adds no year; inside 30 days it is billed as a renewal.
How do I transfer a .es domain to WebJi®?
Request the AuthCode from your current registrar; it goes to the administrative contact, who then approves the transfer by email. With more than 30 days left the expiry date is unchanged and the transfer itself costs ₹0; inside 30 days the transfer is billed as a renewal at ₹716.
Does .es include WHOIS privacy?
No. The registry publishes registrant data and private registration is not offered on .es, so the identification details on the record are visible. We confirm exactly what shows before you pay.
Does .es support ñ and accented characters?
Yes — .es accepts internationalised labels with Spanish characters such as ñ and accented vowels, alongside plain ASCII names of 2 to 63 characters.
