How do you check whether a domain is free?
You check one full name at a time: the label, a dot, and the extension. example.com and example.in are two different checks. WebJi® confirms each string before you pay.
- Write the label in lowercase. Letters and numbers are fine. A hyphen is allowed. A space or a symbol is not.
- Add the extension you will use. Check .com, .in, and .co.in as three names, not one.
- Use Get Custom Quote on that row, or email the list to support@webji.services. Put one name on each line.
- The check worked when every line comes back available or taken. A free name includes the first-year price and the renewal.
Verisign assigns .com. NIXI assigns .in and .co.in. The reply is their status for that exact string, not a result from a web search.
What does available, taken, or premium mean?
Available means the registry will still sell that string. Taken means a registrant already holds it, so a new registration is refused. Premium means the string is free, but the registry priced it above the standard band.
- Available: you can register that exact string at the confirmed price.
- Taken: stop. A new registration of that same string will be refused.
- Premium: the name is free, and the price sits above the ordinary band.
Check the extension you will actually use. A free .in does not make the matching .com free.
WHOIS is the public record of a name that is already registered. It is not the price of a free name. Use a Whois domain lookup only after the status comes back taken.
What do available names cost per year?
Use the table for the yearly band of each extension. .com is ₹900–1,200 to register and ₹1,000–1,400 to renew. .in is ₹500–800 to register and ₹700–1,000 to renew. .co.in is ₹500–900 to register and ₹800–1,100 to renew. All of those figures are before 18% GST.
Those three are before 18% GST and were read on 29 October 2026. The renewal is not the first-year figure. Other rows in the table follow the same rule.
| TLD | Indicative registration (₹/yr) | Indicative renewal (₹/yr) | Best for | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| .com | ₹900–1,200 | ₹1,000–1,400 | Universal default | Get Custom Quote |
| .in | ₹500–800 | ₹700–1,000 | Indian businesses | Get Custom Quote |
| .co.in | ₹500–900 | ₹800–1,100 | Indian brands/enterprises | Get Custom Quote |
| .xyz / .online | ₹150–500 first yr | ₹800–1,400 | Launches, offers | Get Custom Quote |
| .ai | ₹6,000–8,000* | ₹6,500–8,500* | AI startups (2-yr min) | Get Custom Quote |
| .io | ₹2,800–3,800 | ₹3,200–4,200 | Tech/product companies | Get Custom Quote |
Yearly bands in rupees, before 18% GST, read on 29 October 2026. The exact registration and renewal are confirmed before you pay.
A premium name can cost more than the row for its extension. The .xyz and .online cell is a first-year band, and .ai is a two-year minimum. Anything not listed is quoted by email at support@webji.services before you pay.
When the reply says the name is available, register it with domain registration in India. Do not assume the low end of a band until that exact string is confirmed.
What do you do when the name is already taken?
Do not pay for a string marked taken. Try the same label on another extension in the table, or a shorter label you can say once.
If you already hold that name at another registrar, ask for a transfer. You need the authorisation code, the lock switched off, and a registrant email that still receives mail. Approval is required, and the move is not instant.
If someone else owns the name, a private sale is between you and that holder. This check does not negotiate the sale.
What happens after you register a free name?
After payment, the name should appear in your WebJi® panel with DNS unlocked. Set the nameservers, then add an A or AAAA record for the host. Many Indian networks follow within 1 to 12 hours. Some take up to 48 hours.
Switch on the registrar lock the same day if the panel offers it. Keep the registrant email working, because expiry mail goes there. Renewal reminders may also arrive by SMS. Free WHOIS privacy is included where the registry allows it.
Some country-code registries publish the owner anyway. That limit is stated before you pay.
Support is 24/7 email at support@webji.services, in Hindi and English, and the average first reply is under 60 minutes. Do not use the office phone as a support line. WebJi® has been in this business since 2005 and has served 12,000+ clients online.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I check if a domain name is available?
Send the exact label and extension, such as name.in, to support@webji.services, or use Get Custom Quote on that row. Available means the registry will still sell it. Taken means a registrant already holds it. The reply should give the status and, if it is free, the first-year price and the renewal.
Does a web search show if a domain is free?
No. A web search shows sites that already exist. A name with no website can still be registered. Only an available or taken reply from the registry answers the question.
Why is one spelling free and another taken?
Each extension is its own name. name.com and name.in are checked separately. A hyphen or a plural is a different string as well. Check the spelling you will print.
What does a premium price mean on an available name?
The registry priced that free string above the standard band. You can still register it. You pay the premium figure, not the ordinary row. The exact premium is confirmed before you pay.
Can I check more than one domain at a time?
Yes. Send one name per line, with the extension on each line. You get a status for every string. Register only the lines marked available.
How fast does a free domain activate after I pay?
Most names show in the panel with DNS unlocked within minutes of a cleared payment. Pointing the name at a site can take 1 to 12 hours on Indian networks, and up to 48 hours on some others. You know it worked when the panel lists the name and the expiry date.
Is a WHOIS lookup the same as an availability check?
No. WHOIS describes a name that is already registered. An availability check says whether the registry will still sell the string, and at what yearly price. Use WHOIS when the status is taken and you need the published dates or nameservers.
