When Dedicated Becomes Necessary

First, confirm dedicated is actually necessary — the honest thresholds. Sustained resource faults in cPanel graphs (not one bad afternoon), database load a shared environment cannot isolate, compliance or architectural demands, and storage/IO profiles that outgrow shared disks. A VPS or cloud tier often solves the same contention at lower complexity.

When dedicated is the answer, the migration runs in four moves:

1. Plan — inventory every asset: domains, DNS zones, databases, mailboxes, cron jobs, SSL certificates, custom PHP versions; pick the window from analytics; drop DNS TTLs to 300 seconds the day before.
2. Transfer — WHM Transfer Tool for cPanel-to-cPanel, or rsync + mysqldump for manual moves.
3. Validate — hosts-file preview of every site, mailboxes present, databases imported.

Then flip DNS: A records (and www) to the new IP, MX if mail moved, keeping TTL low; propagation completes within minutes to hours given the 300-second TTLs. The 72-hour overlap. The old server stays running, still accepting mail and any lagged requests. Sync deltas one final time (a last Transfer Tool pass or rsync/mysqldump of anything changed), watch logs on both, then and only then decommission.
