What do you need to make an HTML website?
You need a plain text editor, one folder on your computer, and a browser to preview the page. A domain and hosting come later, when the files leave your machine. You do not need WordPress, a database, or a design app for the first HTML page. Keep the site files in that folder so every link can stay relative.
- A text editor that does not hide the file extension.
- One folder that will become the site, with nothing important left outside it.
- A browser to open the file before any host is involved.
- Hosting and a domain only after the local page already reads correctly.
How do you write your first HTML page?
Create index.html in that folder and declare HTML5, a character set, a title, and one heading a visitor can read. Save the file, then open it in your browser. If the heading shows, the page works. Repair a missing bracket before you add sections, because a broken head hides every later mistake.
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang="en">
<head>
<meta charset="utf-8">
<title>My first page</title>
<link rel="stylesheet" href="style.css">
</head>
<body>
<h1>Hello</h1>
<p>This is my page.</p>
<img src="photo.jpg" alt="Describe the picture">
</body>
</html>Save that file as index.html. The title is what the browser tab shows. The heading is what the visitor reads. Open the file from the browser, not from a preview that rewrites your markup.
How do you add CSS and images?
Add style.css beside index.html and link it from the head so the browser loads your rules. Put images in the same folder, or in an images subfolder, and point each img src at that relative path. Write alt text that describes the picture. A max-width keeps the layout usable on a phone without a framework.
body { font-family: sans-serif; margin: 1rem; }
img { max-width: 100%; height: auto; }Link the stylesheet with a relative href, the same way the sample page links style.css. An image path that starts with a slash looks at the site root, which is wrong until the files are online. Keep photo.jpg next to index.html while you are still on your own computer.
How do you put an HTML site online?
Upload the same folder you tested locally once hosting and a domain are ready. The file that opens first must be named index.html and must sit in the web root, not inside a nested copy of the folder. Follow the FTP guide for the panel you were given, then reload the live URL in a private window.
- Confirm index.html opens locally and that images use relative paths.
- Create the hosting account and note the web root the panel gives you.
- Upload the folder contents into that root so index.html is not buried one level down.
- Open the domain in a private window and fix only the paths that fail there.
Which hosting fits a static HTML site?
A static HTML site is only files, and WebJi® puts them on shared hosting. Launch is ₹299 a month or ₹2,868 a year before 18% GST, and 18% GST is added on the invoice. There is no free static plan. Static site hosting is that offer. Shared hosting plans are the same rows if the site later needs PHP.
Shared hosting on this product uses ControlPanel.Systems. It does not include cPanel, and it is not a separate static-only network. There is no free static plan. PHP can be added later on the same account. Until then the server only has to deliver the files you uploaded.
When should you move to WordPress?
Move when editors who will not touch HTML need posts, themes, and forms. Stay with HTML while the site is a few fixed pages you still edit as files. Switching is a migration, not a hosting upgrade. The guide on how to convert an HTML site to WordPress owns that move. This page stays with creating the original.
- Stay on HTML for a short page you are willing to edit as a file.
- Move when several people must publish without learning tags.
- Move when you want a blog, themes, or forms maintained as an application.
- Treat the move as a migration of content, not as a different upload button.
