What server stack is required to host ASP.NET Framework, ASP.NET Core, and Blazor apps?
ASP.NET Framework needs Windows and IIS, not the Linux shared plans. ASP.NET Core and Blazor Server run on .NET 8, which these Windows plans include, with IIS as the host. Blazor WebAssembly is static files plus an optional API. IIS can serve the files. The API still needs .NET. A PHP account will not run this stack.
- ASP.NET Framework: Windows and IIS. Not the Linux shared plans.
- ASP.NET Core and Blazor Server: .NET 8 on these Windows plans, hosted in IIS.
- Blazor WebAssembly: static files IIS can serve, plus a .NET API if you have one.
- Plesk is the panel. MS SQL is the database on these plans.
Which .NET versions, IIS features, and MS SQL Server databases are supported?
The plans include .NET Framework 4.8, .NET 8, IIS with URL Rewrite, and MS SQL. Plesk is the panel. Framework 4.8 is for older Web Forms and MVC apps. .NET 8 is for current ASP.NET Core. No database size is printed here. Check SQL Server hosting before you assume a large catalog fits the shared plan.
| Piece | On these Windows plans |
|---|---|
| .NET Framework | 4.8, for older Web Forms and MVC apps |
| .NET | 8, for current ASP.NET Core |
| Web server | IIS, with URL Rewrite |
| Panel | Plesk |
| Database | MS SQL. No size cap is printed on this page. |

When can an ASP.NET app run on shared Plesk Windows hosting vs needing a Windows VPS?
Use the shared Plesk Windows plan for a normal IIS site shipped by Web Deploy or FTP, with web.config and an MS SQL database that fits. Choose a Windows VPS for Remote Desktop, a service outside the shared pool, or more CPU than shared allows. That VPS is a separate quote, not a fourth yearly row.
Stay on the shared Windows plan while Web Deploy or FTP, web.config, and MS SQL are enough. Move when you need a desktop on the server, a Windows service outside the shared pool, or more CPU than that account allows. That larger machine is Windows VPS hosting, quoted on its own page, not as a fourth yearly price here.
How do you deploy your ASP.NET project via Visual Studio Web Deploy or FTP?
Publish with Visual Studio Web Deploy, or upload the build by FTP into httpdocs in Plesk. Take the host, user, and path from Plesk. Keep web.config, and set the MS SQL connection string in that file or in the panel. Browse the site before you change public DNS. The longer deployment notes sit beside this short sequence.
- Build in Visual Studio and choose Web Deploy, or export the files for FTP.
- In Plesk, copy the host, username, and the site httpdocs path.
- Publish so web.config lands with the application, not in a nested folder.
- Set the MS SQL connection string in web.config or in Plesk.
- Browse the site on the hosting name before you change public DNS.
The longer companion is how to host an ASP.NET website. Questions about a catalog that may not fit this plan go to the SQL Server page linked above.
